Pittsburgh is famous for its amusement parks! You'll find plenty of them at Kennywood Park, one of "America's finest traditional amusement parks." Voted the second best amusement park in the country by readers of Theme Parks magazine, Kennywood's five gravity-defying roller coasters will take your breath away. You'll get hills surrounded by water at Sandcastle Waterpark. This riverside amusement park has twisting waterslides, spacious pools, an old fashioned boardwalk with food, gift shops, an arcade and the world's biggest hot tub.
The Mattress Factory, a Pittsburgh museum of contemporary installation art, is one of only a few museums of its kind in the world. The Mattress Factory provides living and working space to artists from around the world as they create new installations in the former factory space. In 1991, John Caldwell, then-curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, said of the Mattress Factory, "It is one of the great undiscovered cultural resources in America. The art you see there usually can't be seen anywhere else except New York, and often not even there." The Mattress Factory celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2002. |
